The APP Tour's three-week marathon comes to a close in the beautiful borough of Avalon, New Jersey. With a population of 1250, this tiny beach town in Cape May County gave us the most picturesque pickleball setting imaginable. Take a look back at our time on the Jersey shore with a little help from the cast of..."Jersey Shore."
"Party's here!" - Snooki
Back-to-back-to-back tournaments meant traveling for three weeks straight for a lot of the players and tournament staff, but APP Founder, Ken Herrmann, makes arriving at the beach in New Jersey look fun and effortless.
"Where's the beach?" - Snooki
New Jersey native, Richard Livornese Jr., had no problem finding the beach on this pleasant stroll he took with our social team as he answered fan questions in what could have been a really good first date.
"We've got a situation." - Mike "The Situation"
In the men's pro doubles winners bracket final, Andrei Daescu and Rob Nunnery beat Hunter Johnson and Yates Johnson, only to set up a rematch on Championship Sunday. Daescu and Nunnery may have won this match, but the most interesting play came when Nunnery got himself into a - eh -situation, at the net, one that Yates Johnson promptly took advantage of. You know the play was masterful when even Nunnery applauded.
"Cabs are here!" - Pauly D.
What's a trip to the Jersey shore without hitting the boardwalk? Lee Whitwell and friends made the best of a night off and had a little fun to show for it!
"Staaaaahp!" - Sammie
Championship Sunday got started with Hunter Johnson beating Eduardo Irizarry to win his sixth men's pro singles title of the year, after which Salome Devidze won her fifth women's pro singles title of the year when Megan Fudge pulled out due to injury. But that was all she wrote, as Mother Nature put a hard stop on play at the Avalon Pickleball Center, with a looming storm overhead. Doubles action continued at Proshot Pickleball where Allison Harris won her first APP gold medal in women's pro doubles with her new partner, Simone Jardim, while winning silver in mixed pro doubles, also with a new partner in Hunter Johnson.
"Yeah, buddy!" - Pauly D.
After winning silver in both his doubles categories at the APP Chicago Open last weekend, Daescu came back with a vengeance on Championship Sunday in New Jersey. Daescu brought home the mixed pro doubles title with Susannah Barr for their fifth gold of the season together, and also got it done with Nunnery in men's pro doubles for the duo's fourth gold of the season.
"Never fall in love at the Jersey shore." - Ronnie
But what about dogs? Can we fall in love with dogs? We'll fall in love with dogs.
That's all from New Jersey. Atlanta, we'll see you in a few weeks!
