Jack Munro won two gold medals and Armaan Bhatia earned his first career APP Tour gold medal in an epic men’s singles final as the Association of Pickleball Players (APP) hosted a capacity crowd on Championship Saturday at the 2025 Zimmer Biomet APP New York City Open.
The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, widely known as one of the most prestigious settings in all of sports, hosted the world’s first and world’s best pickleball tour over Memorial Day weekend, welcoming players of all ages and skill levels in addition to the sport’s elite professionals.
The 21-year-old phenom Munro collected his seventh and eighth gold medals of 2025 with victories in men’s pro doubles with Aidan Schenk and in mixed pro doubles alongside Megan Fudge, the APP Tour’s all-time total medals record holder. Bhatia, the top-ranked men’s singles player out of India, won his first career APP Tour gold medal following a marathon men’s singles final, Allison Harris and Bobbi Oshiro won their first women’s doubles title as a team this season, and Sofia Sewing continued her dominant women’s singles run with her fourth gold medal in six events.
The 2025 Zimmer Biomet APP New York City Open also showcased a large field of amateur players from across the country and the AARP Champions and Masters Pro Divisions for pros 50 and over. Gold medalists from the event earned a USA Pickleball Golden Ticket and secured their rights to pre-register for the 2025 USA Pickleball National Championships, and all amateur medalists earned an APP Passport guaranteeing pre-registration for the season-ending 2025 APP Tour Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Women’s Pro Singles
The championship action started with three-time gold medalist Sofia Sewing defending her title against first-time finalist Nicole Eugenio in the women’s singles gold medal match. Both games were tightly contested, but Sewing’s poise and confidence led the way as she won the match, 15-12, 16-14, for her fourth APP Tour singles title of the season. Eugenio’s second-place finish marked her first career APP Tour medal.
“I knew it was going be a little bit difficult today with the wind,” Sewing commented. “I needed a little bit of time to adjust to the conditions, but I really just wanted to stay positive and have fun out there. In the end, it worked out for me.”
Katerina Stewart earned women’s singles bronze for her first career APP Tour medal.
Men’s Pro Doubles
An electric men’s doubles final featured five-time defending champion Jack Munro and APP U.S. National Team member Aidan Schenk taking on Len Yang and Thomas Yu, who earned their spot all the way from qualifier rounds. Yang and Yu burst out of the gate, taking game one 11-4. Munro and Schenk regrouped after the break and fired back strongly, winning game two 11-5. Game three saw Yang and Yu jump out to a 6-1 lead early, but Munro and Schenk rallied off nine straight points to take a 10-6 lead, ultimately winning 11-7 to clinch the gold.
“The end change helped us mentally reset and change strategy,” Munro said following the comeback. “From there, it was a lot of confidence and a lot of trust, and when we got that back, we were winning.”
Schenk had glowing reviews for his partner following their first gold as a duo, commenting “He fills me with confidence every time I play with him. He’s unbelievable on the court, he’s a super positive partner, and he allows me to play my best. He’s the king of New York, and it’s just a blast to play with him.”
“All four players on the court are here to stay” Munro added, offering praise for Yang and Yu.
Fellow APP U.S. Next Gen National Team member Ronan Camron and Armaan Bhatia earned men’s doubles bronze.
Women's Pro Doubles
The women’s pro doubles gold medal match followed suit on championship court featuring two top teams, Emily Cederquist and Yana Newell against Allison Harris and Bobbi Oshiro. Oshiro and Harris found their footing early, cruising in game one 11-2. Cederquist and Newell showed resilience in game two, but Harris and Oshiro pulled away, 11-9, to secure the gold.
“I’ve been implementing taking more shots in practice the last couple of weeks,” Harris said.
“Simone [Jardim] has been helping me a lot. Everyone’s been encouraging me to just go for it, stop being scared and swing away.”
“It was actually our first time playing together in a tournament, but I love Allison,” Oshiro added. “She’s a good player and a good partner, first and foremost. She’s positive, I’m able to trust her, and then I’m able to do whatever I can on the court.”
Jill Braverman and Megan Fudge secured the women’s doubles bronze medals.
Mixed Pro Doubles
Megan Fudge and Jack Munro came into New York with two-straight silver medals, but had their eyes fully set on gold as they battled Amanda Hendry and Chris Haworth in the mixed pro doubles final. Game one went to Fudge and Munro, 11-7, but Hendry and Haworth responded soundly with an 11-8 win in game two. The decisive third game was neck-and-neck, but Fudge and Munro pulled away, 11-8, securing their second gold medals as a team this season.
The Florida duo of Bobbi Oshiro and Randy Blanco teamed up for mixed pro doubles bronze.
Fudge was quick to recognize their opponents following the match, commenting “Shout out to Amanda and Chris. A fantastic tournament, and they’re getting better and better. With Chris bringing over so much strength from the singles court and Amanda’s just a rocker with fast hands, so congratulations to them on their fantastic silver medal.”
Men's Pro Singles
The grand finale in the Big Apple pitted two upstarts in the men’s pro singles final, as Armaan Bhatia faced off against Alex Crum. Bhatia took game one quickly, 15-10, before the stage was set for a marathon game two. Bhatia and Crum battled back-and-forth with neither giving way, until Bhatia finally prevailed, 27-25, to clinch his first career APP Tour gold medal.
“In my mind, I was trying to stay blank, and I’m happy I was able to get through it,” Bhatia said following the win. “I played some good pickleball. It was a lot of fun, and there were some good matches. I’d like to thank the APP and the whole tournament team.”
