The APP continues to expand its international presence, announcing a partnership with Pickleball England as promoting partner of the 2023 English Open, held August 3-6 at the Telford International Centre in Shropshire, England.
The agreement between Pickleball England and the APP marks the second year of the APP's support for the English Open, the primary professional and amateur pickleball competition in Europe. The partnership underlines the APP's continuing global expansion, supporting the rapid growth of pickleball worldwide. The APP hosted two international events in 2022 – the English Open in July and the Spanish Open in September.
The 2023 English Open powered by the APP will greatly expand upon the 2022 edition of the tournament, which hosted nearly 500 players from 24 countries. The Telford International Centre is equipped with three large event halls and a variety of breakout spaces, built to accommodate upwards of 1,000 players and hundreds of attendees.
The tournament will host a variety of events and clinics throughout the week, including traditional singles, doubles, and mixed doubles brackets, a media event, and a Pro-Am tournament. Additionally, the 2023 English Open powered by the APP will host a wheelchair event and a junior event following the success of the English Nationals events in 2022. Competition will be open to players in the following age groups 18+, 35+, 50+, 60+, 65+, and 70+, at skill levels 3.0 through 5.0.
"The APP is delighted to support the 2023 English Open, the headline pickleball event in Europe, a key market in the ongoing expansion of pickleball worldwide, and a fascinating barometer of how fast pickleball is growing globally" commented Tom Webb, Chief Marketing Officer of the APP. "The expected increase in participation is really exciting and shows how quickly pickleball is taking root in the UK and across Europe. The APP is proud to support this growth, and we're excited to lend our experience and knowledge of running world-class events to the highly talented Pickleball England team."
"Pickleball England is proud to have renewed our partnership with the APP, the leading international pickleball organization," commented Karen Mitchell, Pickleball England Chair. "The English Open powered by the APP promises to be the standout pickleball event in Europe in 2023, and we believe it will be a catalyst to supercharge even further the growth of pickleball in the region. The APP's collaboration will be invaluable to our team, and we are looking forward to working with their team, and welcoming some of the best players in the world, who will make the trip over to England for our event in August."
