We are going out with a BANG here in Chicago, and our Championship Sunday lineup is set!
We changed up the scenery from a typical outdoor venue for the State Farm 2023 APP U.S. Indoor Championships, and women's pro singles also saw a bit of a landscape change. Jenna Hessert and Jessica Warren made the most of it as they'll hit Championship Sunday in a battle for gold. In men's pro singles, Chris Haworth and Hunter Johnson will square off in a repeat of the APP Dallas Open back in October. Johnson won gold there but can he repeat history? Alix Truong took bronze in women's pro singles and Mohaned Alhouni took bronze for the men.
In mixed pro singles, the age-old battle between the teams of Parris Todd and Hunter Johnson and Susannah Barr and Andrei Daescu continues. Todd and Johnson beat Barr and Daescu in the winner's bracket final, but Barr and Daescu won their back draw match to earn a shot at redemption on Championship Sunday. Genie Erokhina and Will Sobek took bronze.
Women's pro doubles will see a new new medal stand as well. Going for gold are the teams of Riley Bohnert and Simone Jardim and Allison Harris and Mari Humberg. Harris and Humberg won silver at the APP PickleballSuperstore.com Philadelphia Open but this is Bohnert and Jardim's first tournament together. Susannah Barr and Megan Fudge came away with the bronze.
Hunter Johnson has the opportunity to win a triple crown as he and brother Yates fought through the back draw and will face Andrei Daescu and Rob Nunnery in the gold medal match for men's pro doubles. Daescu will finish the year as the most decorated APP pro in 2023 with 29 total medals, but how many of those are gold will be decided on Championship Sunday. Anderson Scarpa and Mario Barrientos took the bronze medal.
Don't miss the action on ESPN+ beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT!
