The APP Next Gen program is available for players 23 and younger. The age of a player is determined by the age at the start of the event.
Next Gen National Team players are not eligible to compete in APP Next Gen II events.
The APP Next Gen and II brackets are OPEN meaning players compete together with no separation by skill or age. Doubles events will use traditional scoring, in which a team scores only when serving the ball. Singles events will use rally scoring, in which a point is awarded at the end of each rally to the player who won the rally. A player MUST win the game on the serve.
APP Next Gen II players will compete over two days in two events – day one gender doubles and day two gender singles. APP Next Gen Ranking points are earned for each match won at 50% of the APP Next Gen.
APP Next Gen players will compete over three days in three events – day one gender doubles or mixed doubles, day two gender doubles and day three gender singles.
Players compete to earn Next Gen Ranking Points. Points are totaled over a 52-week rolling period. Tournaments play consolation brackets. If a player loses a match, the best they can finish is bronze. A consolation bracket is like a double-elimination bracket except that the participants in the consolation bracket have no chance of winning the championship.
