The Association of Pickleball Players (APP) has announced the additions of longtime pickleball pro Regina Goldberg and pro pickleball coach Brad Mixson to help lead its player development initiatives at The Fort, the APP’s global headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. Goldberg and Mixson will join the high performance coaching staff overseeing the APP Academy and APP Touring Pro Program, alongside the recently announced Pickleball Hall of Famer Kyle Yates. The APP has also launched pricing for the first year of the APP Academy, and more information about the APP Touring Pro Program, based at The Fort.
“I am very pleased to welcome Regina and Brad to the high performance coaching staff at The Fort, where we’ll work side-by-side to develop the best and brightest players in pickleball”, said APP Founder Ken Herrmann. “I have known Regina and her family since I first launched the APP as the world’s first-ever pro and amateur pickleball tour in 2019. She will be an especially positive role model for all our players, and will play a key role in continuing to build the world’s leading player development program for the APP.”
“Brad is one of the top coaches here in South Florida and he will continue to have a strong presence with each player’s development as one of the APP Academy’s primary coaches.” Herrmann continued.
Originally from Mexico, Goldberg has been a mainstay on the APP Tour since its inception in 2019. Her accolades include eight career medals, including winning gold in mixed pro doubles at the 2020 APP Hilton Head Open, two silver medals and five bronze medals. Goldberg’s professional sports career began in racquetball before pursuing pickleball in 2017 and quickly turning pro. After years of competing, Goldberg joined the Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) to begin her teaching career, sharing her pickleball knowledge by running large camps nationwide. Goldberg currently resides in Delray Beach, Florida with her husband Johnny and two young children.
“It is truly an honor to be joining a team that I admire and respect so much at the APP,” said Goldberg. “I can’t wait to mentor and train the future stars of pickleball at The Fort, which will be a spectacular setting. I look forward to being a leader for all players and sharing my pickleball passion with everyone.”
Born and raised in Miami, Mixson will stay close to home as part of the APP high performance coaching staff at The Fort. Mixson played collegiate tennis at Florida State University and embarked on a successful junior tennis career, later becoming a hitting partner with tennis stars Naomi Osaka, Venus Williams, Grigor Dimitrov, and more. As part of the racquet sports staff at Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Fla., Mixson began teaching pickleball in 2018 and was instantly hooked, going on to coach several South Florida area pickleball pros. Mixson resides in the Miami area with his wife Lindsay and seven children.
“I am honored to be a part of the APP and thrilled to work alongside Ken, Kyle, Regina, and the rest of the staff,” said Mixson. “The Fort will be the epicenter of pickleball globally so we’re at the beginning of an incredible adventure.”
In addition to Goldberg and Mixson joining the APP Academy staff, the APP has also launched APP Academy pricing details, available now via theapp.global. Players and parents of aspiring pros can now sign up for the inaugural year of the APP Academy, the world’s first-ever dedicated educational program for future pickleball pros.
